This locomotive was built by Andrew Barclay at Kilmarnock in 1921 and was employed on the Carnarvon jetty railway. The jetty originally extended out to sea from Babbage Island on the southern side of the Gascoyne River mouth.
The One Mile Jetty was built in 1897 to serve the State Ships which carried passengers and freight between Carnarvon and Perth. Before the construction of the North West Coastal Highway, shipping provided the only link between Carnarvon and the outside world. The tramway was built to link the town and the jetty, crossing the mangrove swamps around Babbage and Whitlock Islands. The jetty was used as a deep sea port until the 1980s.
Originally, horses were used to pull cargo trucks and passenger carriages along the jetty to and from the ships and into town. The horses were later replaced by steam and diesel powered wagons.
By 1976 the jetty ceased operations after a new Small Boat Harbour was built.
Fire destroyed a 70 metre section of the jetty in October 2007 but it has been restored to its former glory with the help of the National Trust.
The jetty was closed to the public in 2017 due to the significant risk to public safety.
In April 2021 the wind and sea swell caused by Cyclone Seroja destroyed about 360 metres of the jetty and other sections suffered severe damage. As a result the jetty was declared to be irreparable.
The tramway which operated on the jetty was used to transport heavy loads of wool. The tramway closed in 1965
Following being withdrawn from service the locomotive was placed on a plinth at a local playground.
The locomotive has since been restored to steam by the Carnarvon Light Railway Association and operated regular tourist shuttles on the jetty at some stage. The Carnarvon Light Railway Association was dissolved in December 2001.
