This locomotive was built by Andrew Barclay & Son at Kilmarnock in Scotland in 1926 for the Lake Brunner Sawmilling Co at Ruru in New Zealand. The locomotive was employed at the sawmill from 1926 until 1960 which was a year before the line closed.
Sawmills were established at Ruru in around the end of the nineteenth century. In most cases tramways were built with logs hauled by horses. This locomotive which weighed only 10 tons would be well suited to working on what would now be described as a light railway.
Following its use at the sawmill the locomotive was donated to the Canterbury Railway Society in 1961.
The locomotive was dismantled for overhaul in the front garden of a Christchurch house before it eventually was moved to the Ferrymead Railway at Chistchurch around 1966.
It remains in store at Ferrymead in a dismantled state.
