This locomotive was built for stock by Andrew Barclay at Kilmarnock in May 1947 for John Lysaght (Australia) Pty Ltd to be employed on shunting duties at their Port Kemba steel mill. The engine was built to a standard Andrew Barclay saddle-tank design with cylinders of 16in diameter and 24in stroke. It was of a similar design to Andrew Barclay 1738 which had been supplied many years earlier.
John Lysaght (Australia) Pty Ltd was formed in 1917 to establish a manufacturing site in Australia and in April 1921 the company commenced manufacturing at its purpose-built site in Newcastle in New South Wales. In 1936 Lysaght purchased The Australian Iron & Steel (AIS) plant at Port Kembla which produced flat rolled products including their iconic corrugated roofing sheets.
The locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1964 and placed on a plinth at the company staff recreation ground at Figtree.
In 1978 it was acquired for the Hunter Valley Steam Railway & Museum (HVSRM)collection and delivered to their Rhondda Colliery storage site in November 1978.
When the HVSRM transferred to the New South Wales North Coast branch at Dorrigo the locomotive was moved to the new site at Dorrigo station in July 1980.
The locomotives remains in storage at Dorrigo.
