Avonside   Works No 1862        Kathleen      0-4-0ST     John Lysaghts at Port Kembla, Australia     Gauge 4ft 8½in

This locomotive was built by the Avonside Engine Company in Bristol in 1921 to work at the John Lysaghts.

John Lysaght (Australia) Pty Ltd was formed in 1917 to establish a manufacturing site in Australia and in April 1921 the company commenced manufacturing at its purpose-built site in Newcastle in New South Wales. In 1936 Lysaght purchased The Australian Iron & Steel (AIS) plant at Port Kembla.

In 1972 the locomotive was donated (along with Andrew Barclay 1738 Alison) to the New South Wales Railway Transport Museum (NSWRTM) and placed on display at Enfield. In 1975 the locomotive was moved to the new museum site at Thirlmere.

By 1983 the locomotive had suffered badly from being stored in the open air.

The locomotive was placed on long term loan with the Richmond Vale Preservation Co-operative Society Ltd and was transported to the Richmond Main Colliery site at Kurri Kurri in November 1984.

It was then stripped as for overhaul.
