This locomotive was built by Dübs and Company in Glasgow in 1897 for the Cape Government Railways (CGR) where it entered service as number 194 on the Western System.

In 1912 it was renumbered as South Africa Railways (SAR) number 473 following the creation of the Union of South Africa in the previous year.
The locomotive is privately owned by Clive Holliday and is under restoration at Germiston Steam Depot.
Ex-SAR 6th Class No. 473 built in 1897 still working at Blinkpan Colliery in July 1980.
