Hudswell Clarke     Works No 1223 Vesta 0-6-0T

HC 1223 at Penryhn Castle - May 2012.jpg

This locomotive was built by Hudswell Clarke in 1916.

The locomotive spent its entire working life at the Hawarden Bridge (later renamed Shotton) steelworks in North Wales. After being taken out of service it was presented by the British Steel Corporation to the Industrial Locomotive Society which later gifted it to the National Trust. After a period on display at SHugborough Hall it was moved to Penrhyn Castle.

After being on static display in the Penrhyn Castle Railway Museum for many years it was moved to the Transport Museum at Bury in January 2024 following a review by the National Trust of locomotives at Penrhyn.
