North British Locomotive Company Works No 16084 – NGR 274 & SAR 221

This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) in what had been the Dübs & Co locomotive works in Glasgow until 1903 when it became part of the NBL.

The locomotive entered service with the Natal Government Railway in 1904 as class G locomotive NGR 274.

Following the establishment of the South African Railways (SAR) the locomotive was renumbered 221 and designated a class G engine in 1912.

The locomotive remined in service until 1962.    

The locomotive was later employed as Consolidated Main Reef Mines & Estate No 7 before being left out of service by 1981 at Dunns Witbank Colliery Store.

The locomotive is owned by the Transport Heritage Foundation (THF) and is part of the National Collection.

In August 2014 the locomotive was moved from the Millsite in Krugersdorp to the Outeniqua Transport Museum in George.
