North British Locomotive Company Works No 16255 – CSAR 706 & SAR 918

This locomotive was built in 1904 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow for the Central South African Railways (CSAR).

In 1912 it was renumbered as SAR 918 following the formation of the South African Railways (SAR).

After being taken out of service in 1975 the locomotive was sold to the President Brand Gold Mine where it carried the number 7 The President Brand Free Gold South Mine is near Welkom, South Africa. The site was first discovered in 1939 and initial production started in 1954.

It later moved on and became Freegold number 8.

The locomotive is privately owned and believed to be at the Kimberley Locomotive Depot.
