North British Locomotive Company Works No 24468 – SAR 2928

This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow in 1938 for the South African Railways.

In 1990 it was used to pull a special train between Bloemfontein and De Brug in connection with the celebration of the Gariep Dam project and centenary of railways in the Orange Free State.

In May 1992 the locomotive, along with class 25NC 3481, was employed to haul a 2,400 ton freight train from Kimberley to De Aar which was the final working for both locomotives. 3481 was scrapped around 2007.

The locomotive is privately owned and is located at Bloemfontein Locomotive Depot but has suffered from years of storage in the open.
