This locomotive was built the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) in Glasgow and delivered to the South African Railways in 1949. It was fitted with a type MX Torpedo tenders.

Following withdrawal from service with South African Railways the locomotive has been used by the Ceres Rail Company to haul railtours from Cape Town to Elgin.

At some stage the locomotive has been converted from coal to oil burning.

19D 3321 is seen arriving at Wolseley with a special from Prince Alfred Hamlet in May 1993.
