This locomotive was built the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) in Glasgow and delivered to the South African Railways in 1949. It was fitted with a type MX Torpedo tenders.

Following withdrawal from service with South African Railways the locomotive has been placed on a plinth in Coligny to advertise a local garden centre. Coligny is a maize farming town situated next to the railway line between Lichtenburg and Johannesburg in North West Province of South Africa.
