North British Locomotive Company – Works No 27291 3405

This locomotive (3405) was built by the North British Locomotive Company and entered service with SAR as a class 25NC locomotive in 1953.

In October 1991 the locomotive arrived back in England from Durban at the port of Southampton from where it was transported to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton.The locomotive was brought back to Britain by the North British Locomotive Society who later amalgamated with the Quainton Railway Society in October 2006.

The locomotive is being restored and it is hoped that at some time a 3ft 6in gauge line will be built on which it can operate.
