This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company and entered service with SAR as a class 25 locomotive in 1950s. It was rebuilt as a class 25NC none condensing locomotive in the 1970s.
The locomotive is believed to have been employed on freight duties on the last day of steam in 1997 hauling a train from De Aar to Kimberley.
The locomotive was last known to be stored in the locomotive depot at Kimberley under the care of Steamnet 2000.
