Peckett & Sons    Works No 1645     0-6-0ST    Glen Afton Mines, New Zealand           Gauge 3ft 6in

This locomotive was built in 1924 by Peckett & Sons at Bristol for the Glen Afton Mines in the Waikato region, west of Huntly on New Zealand’s North Island. The mine produced coal for the milk processing plant.

In September 1939 11 miners died when they were asphyxiated by carbon monoxide. The mine closed in 1969.

The locomotive was out of use at the mine from 1958 until 1960 when it was installed at a playground in West Huntly.

From 1978 until 1989 the locomotive was privately owned before going to the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway.

The locomotive is stored in a dismantled state.
