This locomotive was built by R & W Hawthorn , Leslie & Company in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1923 and delivered to the Australian Iron & Steel (AIS) Corrimal Colliery in New South Wales.
The locomotive was one a number used at Corrimal to traversed the escarpment to connect mine adits with the top of a rope haulage incline. At the foot of the escarpment, coal was transferred from the incline to standard gauge rail wagons where antique locomotives shuffled the mine produce to exchange sidings at Corrimal station.
In 1946 the locomotive was overhauled by Clyde Engineering.
In 1964 the locomotive was withdrawn from service and taken to the AIS Locomotive workshops at Port Kembla where it was restored for static display.
In 1978 the locomotive was donated to the Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society (ILRMS). After many years of restoration by ILRMS the locomotive was returned to steam in December 1994.
It remains based at the ILRMS where it sometimes operates.
