This locomotive was built by Hawthorn Leslie & Co at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1891 for the Midland Railway Company of Western Australia (MRWA). It was one of nine such locomotives built to haul passenger trains.
The first member of the class was withdrawn from service in 1929 but this locomotive remaine operational until 1956.
The locomotive was then placed on a plinth at Geraldton under the ownership of the City of Geraldton.
In 1995 the locomotive was donated to the Swan Shire Council in Perth and moved to the Midland Workshops in 1999 under care of the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS).
The locomotive was later relocated to Walkaway Station on the former Midland Railway Company route.
