It was withdrawn from service in December 1965 from Bristol Barrow Road and sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers scrapyard.
In 1986 it was saved for preservation and initially went to Bicester before moving on to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway and remained there until 2013. It then moved to the Swindon and Cricklade Railway where its restoration was to be completed.
By April 2018 it was hoped that the work on the bottom half of the locomotive would be completed by June 2018.
In December 2019 it was revealed that the locomotive had moved to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre where the restoration is planned to be completed. It is thought the locomotive may be in steam in 2020.
In October 2020 the boiler was lifted off the frames in order to begin the final stages of restoration. It was thought then that the locomotive could possibly be in steam in 2021.
By May 2022 it was anticipated that the locomotive would steam again by 2024.
