I have included the following even though the locomotive can hardly be considered to be preserved. It was dumped on the sea front at Oaro along with some wagons in 1945 and has suffered the ravages of the sea and the climate.
Th locomotive was built by Andrew Barclay at Kilmarnock in 1921 and delivered to Wellington for the New Zealand Public Works Department (PWD). Works Department (PWD). It was one of thirteen small locomotives purchased by the PWD from Andrew Barclay between 1916 and 1921.
The locomotive was given the number PWD 533 and used on the construction of the line to Kaikoura.
It was employed by the PWD until 1943 after which it was stored at Kaikoura. It appears the locomotive was used on the construction of the Picton to Addlington Railway which officially opened in December 1945.
The locomotive was written off in the 1950s and dumped on the sear front at Oaro along with some wagons and has remained there ever since. It is now a congealed lump of corrosion with zero possibility of salvage so should not really be part of this website. It is included only because of the way it has been dumped.
