This locomotive was built by W G Bagnall in Stafford in 1952 and was extensively used on the Bankura-Damodar Valley narrow-gauge line.
It weighed 15 tons and a maximum permitted speed of 25kmph.
The Bankura – Damodor Railway (BDR) was built and owned by McLeod & Company which was the subsidiary of a London company of managing agents, McLeod Russell & Co. Ltd.
The BDR was formed in 1891 and amalgamated with the Eastern Bengal Railway in 1941. It was one of the pioneering railway companies that operated from 1893 to 1941, in Bengal province of British India, connecting the Dooars with its junction with Eastern Bengal Railway at Lalmonirhat.
The BDR services were withdrawn in 1995 after it incurred huge losses due to higher maintenance costs, falling passenger numbers as well as falling freight. In 2005 the line was converted to 5ft 6in gauge and train services resumed.
The locomotive is now preserved at Bankura Junction railway station.
