This locomotive has also been identified as works no 6588 in some places although there are photographs of a builders plate showing 6594.

This locomotive was built by Beyer, Peacock & Company at Gorton, Manchester in 1930 for the Bengal-Nagpur Railway.

It operated on the Bengal-Nagpur Railway and later the India Railways until withdrawn from service in 1970.

The locomotive has been preserved in the Delhi Railway Museum.

In 2006 it was used to supply parts to classmate BNR 811 in order to restore the latter to steam. The parts were subsequently refitted and the locomotive cosmetically restored.

It was last cosmetically restored in 2015.
