Beyer Peacock     Works No 239       Class A    22   A506    Thor      0-4-2T        Swedish State Railways (Swedish: Statens Järnvägar)      Gauge 4ft 8½in

This locomotive was built by Beyer Peacock in 1861 for the Swedish State Railways.

It was one of 58 class A locomotives built in two batches. The first 32 locomotives were built between 1863 and 1873 and the second batch between 1906 and 1909 to replace earlier class A engines.

The class A locomotives were the first to operate on Statens Järnvägar with superheaters. The locomotives weighed 60.2 tons, had 6 feet 2 inch driving wheels and were allowed to travel at up to 90 kmh (56mph).

Most of the remaining class A locomotives were scrapped in the 1930s following the electrification of the Swedish railways.

A506 is now on static display at the Swedish Railway Museum at Gävle.
