This locomotive was built by Beyer Peacock in 1865 for the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen in the Netherlands. The railway company existed until 1938, when it formally merged with the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HSM) to form the Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
The locomotive was one of a class of eighty six built by eyer in the period 1865- 1873.
They were withdrawn from service in 1933.
This class 9-16 locomotive is now on display at the Dutch Railway Museum in Utrecht.
