Beyer Peacock Works No 6919 – NG109

This locomotive was built by Beyer, Peacock & Company at Gorton, Manchester in 1939 for the South Africa Railways (SAR).

For details of class NG G16 locomotives go to Class NG G16 .

After its service with the South Africa Railways the locomotive was purchased and brought back to Britain in a scrapyard condition and stored at the Exmoor Steam Railway.

In 2009 the locomotive, in its unrestored state, was purchased by Waterman Heritage Railway Trust with the intention of restoring it to run on the Welsh Highland Railway. This was part of the plan by Pete Waterman to create a national railway training scheme but this collapsed when Government funding was halted.

After the failure to gain Government backing for his apprenticeship restoration program, the overhaul of the locomotive was stopped. All the parts of the locomotive were moved to Dinas on the Welsh Highland Railway where they remained in open storage.

After failing to sell the locomotive to the Welsh Highland Railway it was moved in August 2018 to Peak Rail in Derbyshire.

As of August 2022 the locomotive is partly dismantled at Peak Rail.
