This locomotive was built by Beyer Peacock in Gorton, Manchester in 1946/7 for the South African Railways (SAR).

After operating on the SAR it was sold into industrial service after her SAR days ended and remained in regular use until 1993 when the mine closed. It served as No 6 at Vryheid Coronation Colliery located near Vryheid, Natal, in the Hlobane coalfields. The coalfield railway connected with the national network at Boomlager.
Following industrial service the locomotive was taken into the Transnet national collection.
The locomotive is owned by the National Collection by the Transport Heritage Foundation (THF) and was selected by the THF to be the class representative in the National Collection.
The locomotive is based at the Outiniqua Transport Museum
