This locomotive was built by Beyer, Peacock & Company at Gorton, Manchester in 1951 for the South Africa Railways (SAR).

The locomotive returned to Britain when delivered to the Exmoor Steam Railway.
It was subsequently purchased by Steam Powered Services (Peter Best) in scrap condition.
The locomotive was then restored at Dinas on the Welsh Highland Railway where it entered service in 2021.
