This locomotive was built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester in 1958 for the South African Railways.
For details of class GMA and GMAM go to Class GMA and GMAM.
At some time the locomotive was sold to the Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company (REGM) near Johannsburg where it carried the number R9 and the name Kathy. The railway there was extensive and many steam locomotives were based there until early 1995 when they were replaced by diesel engines.
The locomotive returned to the ownership of the South African Railways when it was acquired by Transnet to work excursion services.
The locomotive has been stored at Voorbaai since 2005
