113 were built by Vulcan Foundry at Newton -le-Willows in Lancashire between 1929 and 1935.
Upon the partitioning of India in 1947 37 members of the class came under the ownership of Pakistan whilst 76 remained in India.
These were the smallest and lightest locomotives of IRS design for broad gauge. Used mainly for branch line light traffic.
