Dübs and Company Works No 3443 – CGR 182, IMR C509 & SAR 462

This locomotive was built by Dübs and Company in Glasgow in 1897 for the Cape Government Railways (CGR) where it entered service as number 182 on the Western System.

It was later one of the four locomotives loaned to the Imperial Military Railways (IMR) during the Second Boer War (11th October 1899-31st May 1902), were renumbered C509.

In 1912 it was renumbered as South Africa Railways (SAR) number 462 following the creation of the Union of South Africa in the previous year.

The locomotive is part of the National Collection and is on static display at the Big Hole Museum at Kimberley.
