This locomotive was built in 1926 by Hudswell Clarke & Company in Leeds in 1926. It was ordered by the Union Cold Storage Company of London for its New Zealand subsidiary, the Westfield Freezing Company of Westfield, Auckland. It is only one of seven steam locomotives built by Hudswell Clarke to operate in New Zealand and one of the three such engines to be preserved.

The Westfield Freezing Works were established by the Auckland’s Hellaby family in 1908. The site was close to South Auckland farms and there were sidings connecting to the main railway line.

The locomotive stayed at the Westfield Freezing Works for all of its working life which probably lasted until 1974 after which it was stored although from 1951 onwards its role was restricted to being the stanby locomotive. It is believed to have steamed in 1974.

In 1991 the locomotive moved to the Goldsfield Railway at Waihi where the locomotive remained for three years.

In 1994 the locomotive was stored at the premises of Mainline Steam Heritage Trust premises which had been established in 1988.

In 1999 the locomotive was passed to the Ngongotaha Rly Trust where it it was  under overhaul but it is now stored in a dismantled state.
