This locomotive was built by Hudswell Clarke & Co in Leeds in 1910 for the Wallaroo Phosphate Company in South Australia.
In 1929 the locomotive was sold and moved to North Broken Hill in New South Wales. It is thought that this may have been as a result of the railway gauge in that part of South Australia being converted from 3ft 6in to 5ft 3in.
At some time later the locomotive was relocated to Mt Isa in Queensland where it became Mt Isa Mines No 3.
After being taken out of service the locomotive was placed on a plinth at the entrance to Mt Ias and remained there for many years.
In 2007 the locomotive was donated by the Mt Isa Rotary Club to the Friends of the North Australia Railway (FNAR) and relocated to Adelaide River, Northern Territory.
The locomotive is now being restored and it is planned that it will operate on the short stretch of track of the old North Australia Railway which ran to the historic Snake River armaments depot.
