John Fowler      Works No 12271     8    0-6-0T     Macknade Mill, Australia      Gauge 2ft 0in

This locomotive was built by John Fowler in Leeds in 1910 and was employed as No 8 at Macknade Mill, Lucinda.

The Macknade Sugar Company opened a sugar plantation and the Macknade Sugar Mill in 1874 which is the oldest raw sugar mill in Australia.

Close to the mill there is a six kilometre long jetty at Lucinda which is the world’s largest sugar loading facility.

The locomotive was originally preserved at Lucinda Point but in 1970 it was acquired for restoration and operation at Timbertown, Wauchope where it carried the name The Green Hornet.

By 2001 the locomotive was out of service and was sold in January 2011 before it was overhauled.

The locomotive is now on display on a plinth in the car park of the Railway Lodge Motel in Queen St, Taree.
