John Fowler      Works No 20273   4  Nelson    0-4-2T    Mulgrave  Mill, Australia      Gauge 2ft 0in

This locomotive was built by John Fowler in Leeds in 1934 to work at the Mulgrave Mill at Gordonvale south of Cairns. Here it carried the No4 and the name Nelson.

Following withdrawal from service the locomotive was placed on a plinth in a park in Nelson.

In 1989 the locomotive was restored to operation at Mulgrave Mill to haul tourist trains that operated from the Mulgrave Mill Museum & Visitor’s Centre along local cane tramway routes. This service has since been discontinued and the locomotive was stored within the Mulgrave Mill yard.

At some stage in its life in preservation the locomotive was fitted with a tender to provide greater fuel and water capacity than the original side-tanks and rear bunker. It is thought the change may have taken place in 1989.

In April 2017 the locomotive was transported to the Bally Hooley Railway at Port Douglas following their purchase of it.
