This locomotive was built by John Fowler in Leeds in 1934 shortly before the company ceased to build steam locomotives. It operated at the Kalamia Mill at Ayr where it carried the name Airdmillan which was the name given to a local sugar cane growing area that supplied the mill.
The locomotive was taken out of service in 1962 after the introduction of diesel power at the mill.
It was then placed on a plinth at the mill after which it deteriorated badly in the open air in the tropical environment of north Queensland.
By 1975 the locomotive was in poor condition, and the Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society (ANGRMS) stepped in to purchase Airdmillan for continued preservation. It was transported to Rocklea, Brisbane in 1975 for an initial period of storage, before moving on to their Woodford site in 1979.
The locomotive remains in store at Woodford.
