John Fowler      Works No 8766     Perth    0-6-0T   Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Australia      Gauge 2ft 0in

This locomotive was built by John Fowler in Leeds in 1900 for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (CSR). It worked at a number of their mills including Macknade Mill. It spent its final working days allocated to the nearby Victoria Mill at Ingham.

In 1932 the locomotive was fitted with a new boiler and at some stage it also gained an auxiliary tendering order to extend the operating range of the engine. As the locomotives based at Victoria Mill generally carried the names of Australian capital cities it is likely that it acquired the name Pert whilst based there.

The locomotive was overhauled in 1965 and retained for some time as a standby engine at Victoria Mill.

Perth was fully overhauled in 1965 and retained for a time as standby loco at Victoria Mill.

The locomotive was subsequently placed on a plinth along with the auxiliary tender at an kindergarten school in Ingham. The tropical weather took its toll on the locomotive and by 1979 it had been removed as it was not considered suitable for young children to play on.

In November 1982 the locomotive was advertised for disposal.

The locomotive was acquired for private preservation in Sydney where it arrived in February 1983.

After some time in storage it was advertised for disposal in November 1982. Fortunately it was acquired for private preservation, entering the collection of a well-known Sydney enthusiast based in Loftus.

The owner relocated to June in 2015 and the owner established a private line known as ‘Pete’s Hobby Railway’ on his property. Restoration of the locomotive for static display was completed in December 2016.

It is thought that the locomotive will be restored to its original 0-6-0T configuration without the auxiliary tender.
