This locomotive was built by Neilson & Company in Glasgow in 1896 for the Cape Government Railways where it entered service on the Eastern System as number 724.
It later became SAR number 1007 in 1912 following the establishment of the South African Railways (SAR).
The locomotive is owned by the Transport Heritage Foundation (THF) and is part of the National Collection.
After being taken out of services with the SAR the locomotive was noted as being preserved at De Aar and was used to haul special trains by Transnet.
It is believed to have last steamed in June 2006.
The locomotive is now on static display in the Outeniqua Transport Museum, George.
