Neilson & Co Works No 4928 – CGR 726 & SAR 1009

This locomotive was built by Neilson & Company in Glasgow in 1896 for the Cape Government Railways where it entered service on the Eastern System as number 726.

It later became SAR number 1009 in 1912 following the establishment of the South African Railways (SAR).
