North British Locomotive Company Works No 16283 – CSAR 734 & SAR 946

This locomotive was built in 1904 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow for the Central South African Railways (CSAR).

In 1912 it was renumbered as SAR 946 following the formation of the South African Railways (SAR).

After being taken out of service in 1975 the locomotive was sold to Blue Circle Cement at Lichtenburg.

The company operated an extensive system serving the Springbok Pan cement works and quarries. By 1991 the locomotive was stored out of use and was later donated to the Agricultural Museum in Lichtenburg.

The locomotive remains at the Agricultural Museum.
