North British Locomotive Company   Works No 21499 – SAR 809

This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow in 1917 for the South African Railways (SAR).

At some time in the 1930s the locomotive was reboilered and it was the reclassified as a class 16CR engine.

The locomotive was one of those that had hauled the Royal Train in 1934 from Johannesburg to Klerksdorp during the visit to South Africa of His Royal Highness Prince George, Duke of Kent.

It is owned by the Transport Heritage Foundation (THF) and is at the Queenstown Locomotive Depot.
