After being shipped to South Africa in April 1945 the locomotive operated until being withdrawn from service in 1988. During its life in service it hauled passenger and freight trains all across the country, and towards the end of its working life it was used to shunt rolling stock in railway yards. The locomotive was transported to Glasgow in 2007 and is now on static display at the Riverside
