This locomotive was built the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) in Glasgow and delivered to the South African Railways in 1949. It was fitted with a type MX Torpedo tenders

As of 2018 it was believed to be at the locomotive depot at Voorbaai.

This locomotive was identified by the South African Heritage Resource Agency (SAHRA) in 2013 as a category C engine that did not meet the SAHRA criteria or merit retention but was available for purchase or lend/lease.

As of 2018 it was believed to be at the locomotive depot at Queenstown.
