This locomotive was built the North British Locomotive Company (NBL) in Glasgow and delivered to the South African Railways in 1949. It was fitted with a type MX Torpedo tenders.

The locomotive is now displayed on a plinth at Gold Reef City theme park in Johannesburg. The park is located on the site of an old gold mine
