This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company in 1953 and entered service with SAR as a class 25 locomotive in 1950s. It was rebuilt as a class 25NC none condensing locomotive in the 1970s.
This locomotive was identified by the South African Heritage Resource Agency (SAHRA) as a category A resource that should be preserved.
The locomotive was last known to be stored in the locomotive depot at Bloemfontein.
