North British Locomotive Company – Works No 27348   3488

This locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Company in 1954 and entered service with SAR as a class 25 locomotive. It was rebuilt as a class 25NC none condensing locomotive in the 1970s.

It was reported in September 2021 that the locomotive had been moved from Bloemfontein to Sandstone Estate near Ficksburg in Orange Free State. Bloemfontein shed has been the home to South African Railways’ reserve museum collection, but vandalism and the removal of parts was causing great concern due to weak security, corruption and the worsening security situation.
