This locomotive was built by Peckett & Sons at Bristol in 1943 to the standard R4 design of 25tons with 3ft ½in diameter driving wheels and 12in x 20in cylinders.
The locomotive was initially employed in Britain at a metal recovery plant as part of the Second World War effort.
In 1951 the locomotive was purchased by Stewarts & Lloyds who operated a tube making plant in Newcastle in New South Wales where it was delivered to in June 1951.
The Stewarts & Lloyds plant took feedstock from the nearby Broken Hill Proprietary (BHP) steelworks. In the first half of the twentieth century Stewarts and Lloyds was the major supplier of iron and steel pipes and other fabricated metal products in Queensland.
The locomotive was shipped to Australia to work at Newcastle but carried the name Corby which where the company operated from in Britain.
The locomotive remained in service until 1973 when it was replaced by diesel power. It was then purchased for the Hunter Valley Steam Railway & Museum collection in 1976.
In 1980 it became the first locomotive to be transported to Dorrigo where it remains in store.
