USATC 3278

3278 was built by the American Locomotive Company in 1944

Shipped to Britain and used on GWR after running in on LNER.

Following being returned to USATC stock it was shipped to France in 1944.

After the Second World War it was sold and worked in Greece before being brought back to Britain where it was based on the Mid Hants Railway.

It was given the name Franklin D Roosevelt who was the President of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945.

It steamed again in the later 1990’s for ten years during which time it visited a number of heritage railways.

In 2014 it moved to the former Mod site at the Long Maston Military Railway in Warwickshire but is currently being overhauled at Tyseley.
