The Bluebell Railway Standard Class 2 Project is building 84030 by using Standard class 2MT 78059 as a donor. 78059 was withdrawn from service in November 1966 and sold for scrap to Woodham Brothers at Barry. It remained in the scrapyard until May 1983 when it was purchased by the Bluebell Railway Trust with the intention of converting it to a Standard class 2MT 2-6-2T tank engine.

The tank version was introduced one year after the 2-6-0 tender engine.

Work continues on the locomotive on the Bluebell Railway and in June 2018 the locomotive was placed on its driving wheels.
